Ad Creative: Why One Ad Is Never Enough
When a campaign stalls, the cause is almost always creative. Having variants ready is the difference between acting and watching.
Ad platforms have become very good at finding the right audience. What they still can't do is invent a better message than yours. That's why creative is now the variable that weighs the most.
Angle, not just format
Making three variants by changing the background colour isn't a test. Useful variants start from different communication angles: different reasons why someone should care.
- The problem: start from the daily annoyance the product solves.
- The result: show the outcome and let the path be inferred.
- The objection: address the most common doubt head-on.
- The comparison: explain how you differ from the alternatives.
Creative wears out
An ad that performs well will stop performing. Not because it gets worse, but because the same audience has already seen it too many times. The decline is physiological and predictable: anticipate it, don't suffer it.
How to set up an honest test
One variable at a time, same audience, same period, comparable budgets. Every shortcut introduces ambiguity and makes the conclusion unusable.
Produce in batches
Organise production in sessions: one day yields multiple variants for the following weeks. Producing one ad at a time, on demand, is the slowest and most expensive way to work.
When results drop, the first thing to change is almost always the ad, not the audience.
