TikTok Ads: When It Makes Sense and When to Skip It
Not every product works on TikTok. Recognising it before investing is worth more than any optimisation afterwards.
TikTok is often pitched as a channel for everyone. It isn't. It has precise characteristics that make it very effective for some businesses and essentially useless for others.
When it works
- The product can be shown in action within seconds.
- There's a visible result: before and after, transformation, demonstration.
- The target audience is broad, without narrow requirements.
- You can sustain continuous video production, not occasional output.
When to avoid it
When the product needs a long explanation to be understood, when the audience is very narrow and professional, when there's no way to produce video regularly. In those cases the budget performs better elsewhere.
Native language isn't a detail
An ad that looks like an ad gets skipped very fast. You need a language compatible with the rest of the platform: pace, framing, tone. Repurposing a commercial made for other contexts rarely works.
The product storefront
When the sale happens directly inside the platform, the journey shortens considerably. But operational sustainability must be assessed: catalogue, order handling, support and returns stay with the seller.
Saying a channel isn't the right fit is part of the job. Opening a campaign where it makes no sense is the fastest way to burn trust and budget.
