Growing Without Raising the Budget
Before increasing spend, check how much is being lost along the way. There's usually more than you'd expect.
When results fall short, the first reaction is to ask for more budget. It's understandable and it's almost always premature: in most projects there's more to recover in what's being lost than in what could be added.
The three biggest leaks
- Enquiries that arrive and get no reply the same day: the easiest loss to eliminate.
- Pages that bring visits and don't say what to do next.
- Content produced once and never reused in another format.
The calculation worth doing
Out of a hundred people who arrive, how many take the action that matters? If it's two, bringing a thousand more costs money; getting to three costs far less and produces the same effect. The second intervention is almost always cheaper than the first.
Reusing isn't repeating
A long piece contains three or four short ones already written. Extracting them isn't recycling: it's distribution. Few people saw the original, and they weren't necessarily the ones who'll see the extracts.
When more budget is genuinely needed
When the journey converts steadily and the limit is how many people enter it. That's when added spend produces a proportional effect, and not before.
Before buying more visits, ask how many of the ones already arriving are being lost along the way.
